Hymn: Not What My Hands Have Done

Not what my hands have done, can save my guilty soul.

Not what my toiling flesh has borne can make my spirit whole.

Not what I feel or do can give me peace with God.

Not all my prayers and sighs and tears can bear my awful load.

Thy work alone, O Christ, can ease this weight of sin.

Thy blood alone, O Lamb of God, can give me peace within.

Thy love to me, O God, not mine, O Lord, to thee
Can rid me of this dark unrest and set my spirit free.

I praise the God of grace; I trust his truth and might.

He calls me his; I call him mine, my God, my joy, my light.

Tis he who saveth me, and freely pardon gives.

I love because he first loved me; I live because he lives.

How my love for the Savior grows with each day. The closer I draw to Him, the more of heaven I see.

Yet, I also see more of my sin. Yes, I am redeemed. Yes, He paid with his own blood. Still, the burden of sin, so heavy, I scarce can lift my eyes at times. I should, no, I must trust in "Thy work alone, O Christ," that can ease this weight of sin.

Among the innumerable things the beloved bride of Christ will experience upon our glorification, one stands foremost in my mind: We will not sin. We won't be able to sin. I shall not dishonor my Redeemer any longer. We will be whole, complete, without wrinkle, spot, or blemish.

To God be the glory forever and ever.

On my blog the other day I posted the words to the hymn, 'When I survey the wondrous cross'. I made a point about how the new songs most churches sing today (mine included)no longer preach Christ like they did in the old hymns.

I like your site. Keep up the good work.

I love what you wrote, Chris...and I agree with the prevous comments, too, about how the more contemporary Christian songs do not preach the message of Christ. Maybe you could write some new lyrics.
